Recognizing Labor Day
Most City services will be closed this Monday, September 4, in recognition of Labor Day. This federal holiday is observed annually to honor the contributions of American workers across our nation's economy and culture.

As always, our Customer Service Team is available during operating hours for assistance.

PS: Labor Day is a popular travel holiday. Plan ahead and allow extra time if you're leaving the Island this weekend.
Recology Reissues Pickup Calendar Due to Error
Have a Recology pickup calendar on your fridge? Last November, the company provided a mailer to Mercer Island customers that accidentally flipped recycling service weeks starting in July. This calendar has incorrect pickup dates and should be discarded.

Recycling collections will continue as normal through the end of the year and no changes are occurring. Islanders should continue to put bins out for service on the weeks you normally would.

Recology is mailing new calendars to Mercer Island customers in the coming weeks, and you can see the correct calendar now on Recology's website. If you have questions, contact Recology's customer service department.
Paving Work Underway in Madrona Crest East
You may have noticed roadwork in the Madrona Crest East area. A City paving contractor, Lakeside Industries, is currently conducting pavement removal and roadway repaving on SE 36th Street, SE 37th Street and SE 39th Street bounded by 88th Avenue SE and 90th Avenue SE. This work is anticipated to be completed within two weeks.

As always, please drive safely in construction areas and expect some travel delays as well as heavy equipment and truck traffic while crews are working. Flaggers will continue to maintain one lane of traffic flow from 7:00am to 5:00pm. If you have questions about this project, contact the City's Customer Service Team for assistance.
Art Walk and Art Uncorked Coming Up
Mercer Island's First Friday Art Walk is set for a special edition to coincide with the annual Art Uncorked event for an evening of fun - catch both events on September 8 for a creative exploration of art, wine, and more in Town Center.

Art Walk participants include Aljoya with a display from 13 MIVAL artists, Clarke & Clarke Art + Artifacts with a premier for artist Alexa Budd, and many more. Art Uncorked will feature a tasting garden, live music, and food. See the schedule and get your tickets on the event website.
Reminder: Stage 2 Burn Ban in Effect
A Stage 2 Complete Burn Ban is in effect for King County due to increased fire risk. A Stage 2 Complete Burn Ban means:

All outdoor fires, including recreational campfires, pellet fireplaces, cooking fires, and ceremonial fires are prohibited.

Propane or natural-gas fired grills, fireplaces, fire tables, pellet smokers and other gas-fired appliances may continue to be used along with charcoal grills per manufacture recommendations. Please use caution when disposing of charcoal remains.

The ban will remain in effect until further notice. The fire marshals are carefully monitoring weather conditions related to wildland fuels in the area. When these conditions return to more typical levels, the ban will be removed.

You can learn more about Mercer Island burning restrictions, including year-round rules, on the City Website.
