I-90 Lane Reductions and Ramp Closures Ahead

Heads up: WSDOT announced an overnight closure and emergency repairs impacting Mercer Island. Here's what you need to know:

Eastbound I-90 will fully close overnight beginning at 11:00pm this Friday, January 19 until 6:00am Saturday, January 20. In preparation, the southbound I-5 to eastbound I-90 ramp will close at 10:00pm and the

Rainier Ave North and South ramps to eastbound I-90 will close at 10:30pm.

Additionally, WSDOT crews are closing the far-right lane of eastbound I-90 between Mercer Island and Bellevue starting tonight, January 17. The single-lane closure will be in place for the next few weeks as WSDOT prepares the area for a temporary lane restriping in February, and eventual joint repair scheduled for the spring of 2025.

More details will be available when WSDOT shares them. As always, you can stay updated on traffic impacts using WSDOT’s Real-time Travel Map.

Don't Miss It: Final Winter Workshop Coming Up

Don't miss it! The final event in our Winter Workshop Series is coming up on February 1. You'll hear from Rita Moore (a Washington Native Plant Society Steward, King County Wetland Steward, and Mercer Island Forest Steward) as she shares her knowledge about Pacific Northwest plants and gardening. Not only has she restored her own yard to Certified Wildlife Habitat status, but she's also helped to restore parks across Mercer Island and beyond. This event is a great opportunity to learn more about our native plants.

The workshop is free to attend. Simply register online, bring a notebook, and join us at the Community and Event Center on February 1 from 5:00pm - 6:00pm. No green thumb neccessary.

Fire Station Open House Rescheduled

After winter weather required a cancelation last weekend, the second Fire Station Open House has been rescheduled for this Saturday, January 20 from 11:00am - 1:00pm. Stop by Station 92 (South End) during this time to meet your firefighters, explore the station, see equipment, and learn how fire services work. Plus, it's a great opportunity for kids!

Beginning this year, Eastside Fire & Rescue is Mercer Island’s provider of fire and emergency medical services. Islanders can expect the same level of service and both Mercer Island fire stations remain open and operational. Visit our Let’s Talk Page to learn more.
