Recognizing Juneteenth
In observation of Juneteenth, most City operations will be closed this Monday, June 19.

Juneteenth, which takes place on June 19 each year, is recognized across the nation as a day to remember the history of systemic racism, slavery, and inequality in America. In honor of the day, Islanders are invited to a Juneteenth Community Celebration on Monday from 12:00pm - 4:00pm at Mercerdale Park - you'll find vendors, exhibitors, and music from 88.9 The Bridge.
Additional Eastbound I-90 Closures Ahead
WSDOT has added additional closures that will impact traffic flow on Mercer Island, as part of several major projects in the area.

From 10:00pm Friday, June 16, until 6:00am Saturday, June 17: the two right lanes of eastbound I-90 between the Mount Baker Tunnel in Seattle and the Mercer Lid on Mercer Island will be closed. Both northbound and southbound on-ramps from Rainier Ave South in Seattle to eastbound I-90 will also be closed, as will the eastbound I-90 off-ramp to West Mercer Way. The Island Crest Way and East Mercer Way off-ramps will remain open.

Islanders can get additional details on these closures and see them on a roadway map using WSDOT’s Real-time Travel Map.
This Weekend: Pride in the Park
Join PRIDE+ and the City of Mercer Island this Saturday, June 17, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm to celebrate Pride in the Park. This event will take place at Mercerdale Park with games, snacks, live music, a book swap, and more - simply bring your friends, blankets, and chairs for an evening of Pride in the Park. June is widely celebrated as Pride Month in commemoration of the June 28, 1969 Stonewall Riots and efforts worldwide to support LGBTQ+ equality. City Council issued Proclamation No. 310 earlier this month, establishing June as Pride Month on Mercer Island.
Help Shape Luther Burbank Park Public Art
New public art is coming to Luther Burbank Park, and your input is requested to help shape it. Known as Mercer Island Medallions, artist Marsha Rollinger is designing 12 bronze pieces that will be inlaid into the new pavement at the park's waterfront plaza. Community input will help determine the design of unique icons and appliques for these bronze pieces - community members can provide input in-person at three upcoming summer events or online. Learn more and share your feedback on the project's Let's Talk page.
A Reminder About Pet Licensing
With Fourth of July celebrations just around the corner, Regional Animal Services of King County is running a campaign to remind pet owners to license their pets. Licensing protects pets with identification and other services, which is both required in our region and can be especially helpful this time of year. Animal Control Officers across the country report a 30% increase in lost pets during the July 4 period, but with proper identification, these pets can be reunited with their families much quicker. Learn more about licensing on the RASKC website.
