Police Response on East Mercer Way
At 6:00am yesterday, August 8, a 911 caller reported finding a motorhome parked at the intersection of East Mercer Way and SE 36th Street with what appeared to be gunshot damage to the vehicle. Mercer Island Police officers quickly arrived on scene and observed a firearm near the motorhome. As a result, the King County Sheriff’s Office, Bellevue Police Department, and Washington State Patrol assisted with securing the scene and safely searching the motorhome. The sole subject believed to be involved is now in custody.

Roads in the vicinity were closed off as officers secured the scene with many police vehicles visible in the area. The Mercer Island Police Department thanks residents and the commuting public for their patience while these closures were in place to ensure everyone's safety.

Officers are continuing to investigate the sequence of events that led to the motorhome being abandoned. No injuries were believed to be associated with this incident, and there is no danger to the public. Additional information will be released once the investigation concludes.
Share Your Feedback: Town Center Parking Study
At the July 6 City Council meeting, the Council directed City staff to resume the process to review and adopt the 2022 Town Center Parking Study report. The preliminary report is now available featuring five main sections and four supporting appendices, including a project overview, parking inventory, community outreach summary, strategies and recommendations, and implementation information. Islanders are encouraged to learn more about the Town Center Parking Study and provide their feedback on the draft report through Let's Talk.
King County Tree Work Along North Mercer Way and I-90 Trail Coming Up
Work on the King County sewer upgrade project continues. As part of this project, County crews will begin necessary tree removals next week along the I-90 trail work areas. The County will plant 600 new trees across Mercer Island to replace the nearly 400 trees that need to be removed - read the County's Plan for Trees factsheet to learn more.

Crews will first mark trees for removal, then cut the trees into pieces and load them into a truck. The area surrounding the trees will be restored and trees will be replanted once that portion of the project is complete. During this work, people walking and biking on the I-90 trail will be detoured around active work areas. Islanders with questions or comments can contact the County's project team and learn more about this work on their website.
