Police Respond to Abandoned Vehicle and Firearm on East Mercer Way

August 8, 2023 - At 6:00am this morning, a 911 caller reported finding a motorhome parked at the intersection of East Mercer Way and SE 36th Street with what appeared to be gunshot damage to the vehicle. Mercer Island Police Officers arrived on scene and observed a firearm near the motorhome. The King County Sheriff’s Office, Bellevue Police Department, and Washington State Patrol assisted with securing the scene and safely searching the motorhome.

No injuries are believed to be associated with this incident, and there is no danger to the public.

The sole subject believed to be involved is now in custody. Officers are investigating the sequence of events that led to the motorhome being abandoned.

The City appreciates the community's patience this morning as Police blocked the roadway to ensure everyone's safety during the initial investigation. Roadways are now open.
