Various locations around Mercer Island

Background

The First Hill booster pump station was upgraded in 2011 to increase the station’s pumping capacity, providing higher water flow and increasing fire protection in this neighborhood. The upgrades included replacing pumps, pipes, and valves as well as the associated electrical system. However, the emergency backup generator was not replaced at that time.

Description

This project will replace the existing emergency backup generator, currently located in an underground vault.

Status Updates

December 2023
This project is working towards 60% design plans and specs. The City’s consultant, David Evans and Associates, hope to have items submitted for the City’s review by the end of December.

July 2023

This project is in the initial design phase awaiting receipt of the 50% design from the engineering consultant. Design completion and advertisement for construction bids are anticipated in Q4 2023.

February 2023

The pre-design analysis for the project identified two possible locations for the new generator. The best location was determined to be underground in the same location where it exists now. This project is still in the early stages of design and is scheduled to go into construction in Q1 of 2024.

Planning/Design

The design contract with David Evans and Associates (DEA) was executed in March. Since then, surveying was completed and the consultant came out to assess the site and verify measurements. DEA is in the process of reviewing the data and a summary of their findings and recommendations is expected within the next month.

January 2024
Staff received 60% design submittals for replacement of the emergency generator and the associated modifications to the existing underground vault that houses it. Review is underway. The project is scheduled to be advertised for construction bids by the end of 2024.
