Bio Blitz and Ellis Pond Work Party

Join us for this special BioBlitz and park clean-up event led by Mercer Island Forest Stewards.

This weekend is the City Nature Challenge a global effort where cities mobilize community science share nature observations through bio blitzing. Bio blitzes are events that focus on finding and identifying as many species as possible from insects to plants, birds to algae.

To start off our event we will teach volunteers all about Bio Blitzing, from how to use iNaturalist to suggestions on where and how to observe. We’ll then break volunteers up into groups to explore the park and make as many observations as possible. Once the bioblitz is complete, the park clean-up will begin.

  • When: Sunday, April 28th, 9am-12pm
  • Where: Ellis Pond Park (meet at the bench next to the boardwalk on 90th Ave SE)
  • What to bring: Dress for the weather in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty (think: long pants, boots or sneakers). Bring water. Small snacks, gloves, and tools will be provided.
  • A smartphone or tablet with iNaturalist
  • Registration: https://volunteersignup.org/KCLA9
