Stage 2 Burn Ban

August 6, 2026 - Stage 2 Burn Ban in Effect

Effective immediately and in response to continued hot/dry weather, fire danger throughout King County, and the ongoing commitment of many local wildland firefighting resources outside the region, the King County Fire Chiefs, King County Fire Marshals, and jurisdictions throughout King County have joined together to issue a Stage 2 Burn Ban covering all parts of King County. 

All recreational outdoor fires, including backyard fire pits and wood or charcoal campfires, are prohibited under the Stage 2 Burn Ban. The burn ban is in effect until further notice. 

The ban does not include propane, natural-gas-fired, or charcoal grills, fireplaces, fire tables, and other gas-fired appliances. Please use caution when disposing of charcoal remains and help protect our communities, forests, and first responders by using extra caution while using these devices. 

The King County Fire Chiefs are working in cooperation with the King County Fire Marshals and King County to continually monitor wildfire fuel and weather conditions.

*Burning yard debris and for land clearing is never allowed on Mercer Island. See MICC 8.30
