Police Investigating May 10, 2023 Armed Robbery

May 11, 2023 - On Wednesday, May 10, at approximately 3:50pm, a 911 caller stated a person was just robbed while walking in the 5300 Block of East Mercer Way. The victim reported the suspects displayed a firearm and forced the victim's cell phone from her hand, fleeing with it in a black sedan.

While responding, Mercer Island Police officers searching the area found a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to yield to officers and continued northbound toward I-90. Officers followed the suspect vehicle and observed it reaching high speeds and swerving erratically to evade officers. As the suspect vehicle approached I-90, the pursuit became too dangerous for pedestrians and nearby motorists. Officers made the decision to discontinue pursuit in order to preserve public safety. The suspect vehicle description was relayed in real time to surrounding agencies, as is common practice in a collaborative effort to locate suspects. There were no injuries during the initial incident or the short pursuit of the suspect vehicle.

Detectives are working with neighboring agencies to determine if the suspects in yesterday's armed robbery on Mercer Island are related to other, similar instances that have occurred in nearby cities.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Mercer Island Detective Sergeant Dominic Amici: (206) 457-9604.
