Project Details/Neighborhood
This project will include storm repairs and water service replacements in the Park West neighborhood from SE 64th St south to SE 68th st and 82nd Ave SE to 83rd Ave SE. The project location will also jump east to SE 70th Pl down to East Mercer Way and from SE 68th St south to SE 70th Pl.
Background
This annual program repairs and resurfaces public residential streets on the Island through hot mix asphalt overlays and chip sealing. The program includes upgrades to substandard residential streets, at the rate of about one location per biennium. Minor storm drainage repairs and minor water improvements will also be constructed. Utility work will be funded from the corresponding City sewer, water, and stormwater utility funds.
Description
Many of the Island's residential street pavements are 25 to 35 years old. Numerous streets are in need of repair and resurfacing. A pavement condition index (PCI) is used to track the condition of streets and helps determine which segments of the 58 miles are most in need of repair. Current planning allows for a 35-year life cycle for residential hot mix asphalt pavements. Utility castings (manholes, valve boxes, catch basins) need to be raised and/or replaced after asphalt overlays.
Work to be performed under this contract includes furnishing all labor, equipment, and materials necessary for the construction of utility improvements in two Mercer Island neighborhoods, including but not limited to: temporary traffic control, pavement removal, fire hydrant removals and installations, galvanized water service line replacements, storm drainage pipe repairs and minor extensions, catch basin installations, utility adjustments, and utility trench pavement restoration. Status Updates
Week of July 11th, 2022 Update
Blue Mountain Construction Group crews are continuing their utility work in the Parkwest Neighborhood at SE 66th Street and 82nd Ave SE installing new water services. A water main shut down is scheduled on 82nd Avenue between SE 67th Street and SE 66th Street and on SE 66th Street for Thursday, July 14th so crews can abandon several old water service taps and install a new fire hydrant. Notices to those residents went out this week. Flaggers will continue to maintain a one-lane road during 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM work hours.
Week of July 4th, 2022 Update
Blue Mountain Construction Group crews moved to the Parkwest Neighborhood at SE 68th Street and 82nd Ave SE this week. A water main shutdown was completed on 82nd Avenue between SE 67th Street and SE 68th Street on Thursday, June 30th. Blue Mountain installed several new water services, abandoned the old services, and cut in a new hydrant tee. The next water main shutdown is scheduled for Thursday, July 14th. Notices to those residents will be sent out prior to the shutdown. Flaggers will continue to maintain a one-lane road during 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM work hours.
Week of May 16th, 2022 Update
Blue Mountain Construction Group crews will continue working on SE 68th Street, SE 70th Place, and 93rd Avenue on storm drainage system repairs and minor water system work. A water main shut down is scheduled on 93rd Avenue for Thursday, May 19th so crews can abandon several old water service taps as well as an old fire hydrant. Notices to those residents went out this week. Flaggers will continue to maintain a one-lane road during 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM work hours.
Week of May 9th, 2022 Update
Blue Mountain Construction Group crews will continue working to SE 68th Street and SE 70th Place on storm drainage system repairs and minor water system work. A small (less than 10 homes) water main shut down is scheduled for Thursday, May 12th so crews can abandon some old water service taps. Notices to those residents went out this week. Please expect minor driving delays through the work zone, as flaggers will be maintaining a one-lane road during their 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM work hours.
May 2022 Update
Blue Mountain Construction Group crews will be moving to SE 68th Street and SE 70th Place on Monday, May 2 to begin storm drainage system repairs and minor extensions, as well as some minor water system work. Please expect minor driving delays through the work zone, as flaggers will be maintaining a one-lane road during their 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM work hours. A few residents in the area may have their water shut off during the day to complete some water service work, and those affected residents will be notified in advance of the shutdown. Utility work in the SE 68th/SE 70th Place vicinity is expected to last for three weeks.
March 31, 2022 Update
Notice to Proceed has been given to Blue Mountain Construction Group LLC on April 4, 2022, after this project was awarded on March 1, 2022. Blue Mountain Construction Group LLC (BMCG) is scheduled to start bringing equipment and materials onsite Monday, April 4th to the Park West Neighborhood that lies between streets; North to south, SE 64th Street to SE 68th Street, and West to East, 82nd Ave SE to 84th Ave SE.
Next week will consist of mainly staging and prepping for construction and some potholing to find existing utilities.
February 2022 Update
The bid opening for this project was February 10th at 2 PM. We have a successful low bidder and currently are working on bidder verification and reference checks. This project is scheduled to be awarded at the March 1 Council Meeting, then tentatively begin construction in early April.
