Emergency Preparedness Workshop

The mission of Mercer Island Emergency Management is to prepare all Islanders to be self-sufficient for 14 days following a major disaster, when public safety and emergency medical services are most overwhelmed. To help the community prepare, the City is providing two free Emergency Preparedness Workshops that will help participants learn the skills to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. Topics include: 

• Understanding local hazards and their impacts
• Planning for emergencies at home and work
• Items to include in a disaster kit
• Creating a family emergency plan
• Preparing together with your neighbors
• Steps to stay safe during a disaster

Mercer Island joins communities across the county in preparing together with their neighbors this September for National Preparedness Month. In addition to these workshops, Mercer Island Emergency Management is offering the following outreach and training opportunities: 

• Outreach Booth at the Farmers Market | September 13, 10am – 2pm
• Stop the Bleed Class | September 16, 6:30 – 8:00pm
• Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training | October 1-3 
• Map Your Neighborhood program | ongoing and as requested
