Municipal Court Marriages

The Mercer Island Municipal Court Judge is authorized to perform marriage ceremonies in the State of Washington.  Marriage ceremonies are performed at the Mercer Island Court outside of regular business hours.  The cost varies between $150 and $200 (accepted via cash or check).  Please fill out the Wedding Request Form and submit it to court@mercerisland.gov. 

Marriage License

Washington State requires a three-day waiting period between the date a marriage license is obtained from the Auditor’s Office and the date a marriage ceremony can take place.  The license is valid for only a 60-day period.  The license fee is currently $69 in King County, $70 in Snohomish County, $72 in Pierce County and applicants must be 18 years of age or older (without special permission).  Please contact the King County (https://kingcounty.gov/depts/records-licensing/recorders-office/marriage-licensing.aspx), Snohomish County (https://snohomishcountywa.gov/5841/Marriage-Licenses), or Pierce County (https://www.piercecountywa.gov/356/Marriage-Licensing) Recorder’s Office for more information.

The City of Mercer Island and Mercer Island Municipal Court do not provide marriage certificates.

Marriage Ceremony

Two witnesses over the age of 18 must attend the ceremony.  If no witnesses are available, please inform the judge ahead of your appointment.  Witnesses can be provided for an additional fee of $25 per witness.  You must bring your license and certificate with you to complete the ceremony.
