Mercer Island Recycling Event

Our Biannual Sustainability Event...

Safely dispose of the old equipment and household items that are cluttering your basement or garage at the annual Mercer Island Fall Recycling Event on Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 9:00am to 3:00pm at City Hall - 9611 SE 36th Street. This is a new event location. 

TRAFFIC: We see up to 700 vehicles during these events, so please expect to line up as there can be delays. Entry is via the main (eastern) City Hall driveway and ends at 3:00pm sharp! Note: The City will also be holding its customary 2x/year Meds & Rx Take-Back Event on this same day at City Hall (starts 10am). 

COVID-19: For public health and safety, please follow standard mask/glove COVID-19 protocols and pack items so they can be removed quickly

NOTES:

  • For Fall 2022, we are adding a new FREE pilot program to accept TV's, Computer, and Monitors, which have not been accepted before. Even flatscreen, projection, and large wooden console styles are OK!
  • This will still be cash-only for any disposal fees required; please provide exact change!
  • Free paper shredding will be offered onsite, limit 5 boxes per person. (You may observe your shredding, if desired)
  • Discounted rain barrels and composters will be available again, $25 each, cash only. Supplies typically run out before day's end.
  • The City's Food Pantry is not currently accepting food donations -- instead, please bring donations in the form of grocery gift cards ($10, $25 or $50), or cash, or credit card. This will be collected by volunteers from the MIYFS Foundation; all donations are tax deductible and will help support our food assistance programs. Thank you!

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE:

Household Hazardous Waste is not accepted at these events but can be taken to King County’s Factoria collection site Tuesday-Sunday; more information and hours can be found online or by calling 206-296-4692. (Note: there is a limit of 25 gallons of gasoline and other automotive fluids per trip and containers must be 5 gallons or smaller; please separate motor oil from all other fluids). DISPOSAL FEES:

Most items are free, but some have a fee. Cash only please - exact change appreciated. 

  • Air Conditioner: $35
  • Fridge or Freezer: $30
  • Mattress or Boxspring [Must be dry]: $20
  • Propane Tanks [Residential only]: $5
  • Tires [Limit 6]: small car tires free; car tire on rim $3; truck tire $9; truck tire on rim $18
  • Toilets and sinks: $15
  • Water Heater w/insulation: $5
