2026 CERT Class
In a disaster, professional responders and resources will be stretched thin and may not be immediately available to provide assistance. The City offers training in basic disaster preparedness and response skills to Mercer Island residents and businesses. The program is known nationally as Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training.
CERT trains and organizes volunteers to assist families, neighbors, co-workers, and other community members during emergencies. Through CERT, participants will learn:
- Emergency preparedness
- Common hazards to Mercer Island and the Puget Sound
- Fire safety skills
- Disaster medical operations
- Light search and rescue
- Team organization
- and more.
This program is free to Mercer Island residents and businesses but registration is required. The 2026 schedule is:
- Thursday, October 1 - 5:00 - 8:30pm
- Friday, October 2 - 8:00am - 5:00pm
- Saturday, October 3 - 8:00am - 4:00pm
The class will take place at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center (MICEC).
